The character Winnie the Pooh originated in a book in 1926 and later appeared in a 1965 Disney animated film.
However, to this day, Winnie the Pooh is still considered an iconic cartoon character popular with people of all ages. The popularity of Winnie the Pooh has created a great demand for a drawing tutorial.
To meet our readers' desires, we have created a step-by-step guide on how to draw Winnie the Pooh, summarized in 9 easy instructions and simple illustrations.
How to Draw Winnie the Pooh
Step 1
Starting at the top of the paper, draw an irregular circle shape with a width greater than the length. This outlines the top of Winnie the Pooh's head.
Start at the top and work your way down. Make sure there is enough space for Winnie the Pooh's entire body. This will also help you place your design in the center.
Step 2
Draw two connected curved lines just below the head. This creates a curved, pointed shape under the head. This shape is also part of Winnie the Pooh's head outline.
The structure may not make sense right now, but it will once the outline of Winnie the Pooh is perfected.
Step 3
Draw a rounded shape under the outline we created in the previous step. This shape forms the outline of Winnie the Pooh's body.
Be sure to highlight Winnie the Pooh's tummy by making it rounder and wider. This makes the tummy appear swollen, one of the defining characteristics of Winnie the Pooh!
Step 4
Polish the shape of Winnie the Pooh's body by removing the inner lines. Note that only the lines that overlap inside the figure should be erased, revealing a more refined outline of Winnie the Pooh's body.
After completing this step, you should now be able to see the figure of Winnie the Pooh's body, starting from the top of his head down to his stomach.
Step 5
To create the Winnie the Pooh shirt, draw a wide V-shaped line under the head to create the hem of the collar. Next, draw an outline covering Winnie the Pooh's torso.
Finally, draw in the short sleeves on both sides of the shirt. This completes the shape of the cropped t-shirt, which is Winnie the Pooh's signature outfit.
Step 6
Draw an elongated, curved shape with a rounded end that connects directly to the sleeve hem. Then repeat the same process on the other sleeve.
This forms the left and right arms and hands of Winnie the Pooh.
As you can see in the picture, Winnie the Pooh's arms are crossed, and his hands are resting on his hips. Next, be sure to draw the arms at an angle.
Step 7
Draw an attached inverted U shape to the lower left side of Winnie Pooh's torso to form the left leg.
Next, draw a semi-circle at the bottom of the leg to form the foot. Make sure you erase the line overlapping the inside of the left leg.
To shape the right leg, draw an oblong shape with a rounded curve along the opposite side of Winnie the Pooh's lower body.
Step 8
Shape Winnie the Pooh's ears by including a curved arc line on either side of the top of his head. Make sure the edges of both ears are rounded.
Next, draw light lines on the collar and hem of the Winnie the Pooh t-shirt. This gives structure to the clothing and makes the fabric appear soft and realistic.
Step 9
When drawing facial features, it's easiest to start from the top down. It also helps ensure everything is aligned and proportionate.
Continue by drawing two short curved lines across the top of the head to shape the eyebrows. Next, draw a small shaded circle under each eyebrow for the eyes.
To create the nose, draw an inverted triangle shape filled with shadows. Finally, draw a wide upward curve to put a big smile on Winnie the Pooh's face.
In the book and the animated film, Winnie the Pooh's coat color is yellow, while the short t-shirt he always wears is red.
You can choose to color Winnie the Pooh with its original colors or use a unique color palette. Either way, we're sure the colors will turn out great!
However, we recommend you do the latter so that you can personalize your artwork and get the most out of your drawing experience.
