Early Life
On July 15, 1946, the Sultan of Brunei was born at Istana Darussalam, Brunei Town. He completed his secondary school education at Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur before earning his degree from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom in 1967.
At the age of fifteen, he was anointed The Pengiran Muda Mahkota (Crown Prince) on July 14, 1961. In particular, the 2nd Gurkha Rifles were dispatched to Brunei in 1962, the same year that the revolt began. Golden Jubilee
Before the Golden Jubilee procession, 80,000 people gathered in front of the Istana Nurul Iman in the heart of the city, shielded by low-lying clouds. The Grand Chamberlain led the stately procession, followed in formation by the graceful Brunei Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Police Forces.
The Sultan got into his royal chariot and pulled up in front of the Bandar Seri Begawan Fire Station. As he entered the streets, thousands of well-wishers waved the national flag and sang, "Long live the king."
